PREVENTATIVE SECURITY AT THE FOREFRONT

Endpoint security, data protection and remote access are the key areas in security that are now being prioritised by security leaders. The interest in this type of technology has grown mainly as a result of emerging security threats but also a change in the way that organisations are working. We have seen an increase in hybrid workplaces, with more remote working meaning a different security threat to organisations.

PREVENTATIVE SECURITY AT THE FOREFRONT

Data from Dark Reading’s 2021 Strategic Security Survey indicates that security leaders are interested in data encryption, endpoint security controls and virtual private networks (VPN) technologies. With 78% rating data encryption as “effective” or “highly effective” security measures. That said, there seems to be a slight preference for perimeter-focused attack prevention controls. Next-generation firewalls (73%), antivirus/anti-malware (72%), and intrusion prevention and detection (72%) scored higher compared with detection and response technologies, such as endpoint detection and response (EDR, 60%), security information and event management (SIEM, 64%), data loss prevention (DLP, 52%), extended detection and response (XDR, 40%), and threat intelligence services (53%).

The survey also suggests that security leaders are concerned with new threats, it’s likely that the interest in data encryption has been prompted by a rise in the number of ransomware attacks involving data theft. 64% of respondents considered log analysis and security information and event management as effective technology to have post-breach, this could be as a result of a growing number of data breaches
